Bicentennial Exhibit Development Internship Week 13
Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Bicentennial Exhibit Development project:
This week has been focused on editing the narrative text and beginning our design of the Canva object label templates in preparation for our session in the Archive and Dr. Crepeau's office collection. Communication about the schedule for the workshop session has been delayed, but hopefully we will receive confirmation for next Wednesday (4/15) so that the team can get the labels drafted before our deadline.
Because of delays in communication, we have decided to extend the deadline for the object labels to April 24, which allows us more time to make sure the labels are completed and in good shape for the end of the project before it is set up in the gallery space. I have been in communication with the other undergraduate interns about this, and in the meantime we will be drafting the template for the object labels in Canva. The deadline for next week will be the template instead of the draft of the labels because of the delay.
Our narrative text drafts are due revised by 4/17 as well, but this will be a much quicker process, so we will definitely get these done for that deadline, which is great! Much of the revisions have to do with the phrasing or accessibility of the language we are using, and other than that, it is regarding certain aspects that we want to highlight in the exhibit plaques.
In addition to everything we have been working towards, we will also be adding a few items to the exhibit, one of which being an "America 250" flag that was donated to the Veteran's Legacy Program by a father of a veteran. I was able to reach out to Dr. Crepeau about the item, and we will be drafting a little "blurb" to explain its relationship to UCF and the exhibit on the Bicentennial. I look forward to having more items related to this year's anniversary, and this is a great opportunity to showcase how UCF's history department expands past just the classroom through the Public History Program.
In the coming weeks, which I will give more detail on in next week's update I am sure, we will need to prepare for our internship showcase on April 24 at 11am. In this week's Public History Central meeting, we were told that the schedule for the internship showcase should be sent out before the end of the week, and I look forward to it! The showcase is very enjoyable, and we get to learn so much about what everyone has been doing throughout the semester. I participated in an internship last semester, so I know what to expect, and I will be able to guide the other Bicentennial interns on what we will be doing for this event.
See you next week!
