FFSS Internship (Fall) Week 4

 Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Florida France Soldier Stories project:

After last week's packed schedule, this week has been much less hectic. This week I am focusing on starting the editing process of the biography that I chose to work on this semester. So far, I have been going through the edits from the previous work that has been done on this biography to see where my editing will fit in. 

The "Early Life" section of the biography has had the most previous editing done to it, whereas the "Military Service" and "Legacy" sections need more work. I will be continuing to go through the "Early Life" section to see if all of the information detailed matches the sources we have on our end, and making notes of any changes that need to be made going forward. There are also some general grammar mistakes that will need to be fixed, but that may come last once all the correct information is included so that we are not constantly fixing grammar mistakes and then creating new ones during the further editing process. 

The "Military Service" section needs some work to make sure that the information that was written is accurate and fully encompasses the activity of the soldier during his service. There are some gaps within the narrative that definitely need to be filled, but that is up to me now! I will begin looking through these sources towards the beginning/middle of next week as I go in order of the sections. I will have to deep dive into the sources for this process, because its been a while since I did work like this (since my project in HIS4150 in the fall 2024 semester), and because military history is not necessarily a specialty of mine. Despite those reasons, I look forward to getting back into this kind of research throughout this project!

 I will also be going into the "Legacy" section of the biography because it seems to need work as well, as there is not enough information to round-out the biography, and we want to make sure the soldiers are getting legacy sections that honor their service and life before, during, and after their service. 

This is as much as I have done at this point in the week, I will update next week on the progress I make this weekend!

FFSS Internship (Fall) Week 13

  Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Florida France Soldier Stories project: These blog posts are pretty repetitive as of recently, since I have been working towards the same goal. But that is good, because it means that we are making progress! I have been consistently working on editing the student submission packets for the Colmar Pocket Museum primary source packets in HIS3600. So far, I have "completed" four out of the ten packets I have been assigned to edit. I say completed in quotations because I am just the first step, and then they will have to be reviewed with the graduate students' work as well, and then we can finalize them for future use. I have enjoyed this process, and I am hoping to get a few more done by the end of next week.
