Bicentennial Exhibit Development Internship Week 14
Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Bicentennial Exhibit Development project:
This week has been a whirlwind! There has been a lot of moving parts to this week's progress on the Bicentennial Exhibit, and the semester's end is quickly approaching at the same time!
Since my last update, the team, graduate supervisor, and project supervisor have worked out that our idea for the Archive session to create the object labels will not be necessary. This is because the object labels can be much simpler than what we originally thought, which is great for our time limit for the rest of the internship! I had a meeting with the graduate supervisor, and we figured out an easier way to create the labels since we will not have the objects directly in front of us when we make them. For now, we will simply use the title of the objects from the object list we made earlier in the semester, and we will not need to include descriptions. On top of this, we also came to the conclusion that our text revisions will need to be prioritized along with the design of the text panels. The narrative text revisions, object labels, and panel designs will be due on Monday (4/20) instead of the original deadline on Friday (4/17), since there was so much going on without anything confirmed. This is a much better timeline for the other interns and I, since we want to make sure the work we submit is well-done and rushed toward the end of the deadline timelines.
This week, we also had our last Public History Central meeting, which is a little bittersweet! It has been such an amazing semester with Public History Central, and I have learned and experienced so much with this cohort of interns! I am very grateful for all of the opportunities that this internship has given me, and I will miss it! In our meeting, we discussed the Internship Showcase that will be occurring next Friday (4/24), where all of the interns (or groups of interns) share what they did over the semester and what they learned as a result. I presented last semester for my other internship (which is also posted on this blog site), so I generally know what to expect. However, this semester, the Bicentennial team (just the interns) will be presenting as a group since we all worked on the same project! This will be very fun, because even though we worked generally on the same stuff, we each had different experiences throughout the semester learning how to create an exhibit.
Until Monday, we will be working on finishing up the narrative revisions, object label design, and panel designs. After that, we will be working to create and practice our powerpoint for the Internship Showcase.
See you next week!
