Bicentennial Exhibit Development Internship Week 9

Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Bicentennial Exhibit Development project:

We have been working on our digital component proposal and timeline since last week. The proposal and timeline were due on Friday (3/13) at 12pm, but we turned it in the day before! Our proposal introduced our method for the digital component which we chose to be a Canva twin of the physical exhibit. In our proposal, we explained why Canva was the best option for our digital exhibit (i.e. the department already has an account, it is simple to navigate, better accessibility etc.) and we also included a mock-up of what the Canva exhibit would look like and a proposed timeline for the creation process.

At first, our proposal for the digital component was going to be a Prezi digital exhibit. We originally chose this because it offered a more interactive feature to the digital component since Prezi allows the viewer to move around freely in the presentation without it needing to be linear or sequential. Unfortunately, though, Prezi has recently moved to a more AI-focused software which did not align with our goals and hopes for the digital component. There was no way to work around the pushed usage of AI, so we scrapped that idea and turned to Canva, which became the better choice in the end.

The other undergraduate interns led this week's assignment because I did most of the work on last week's floor plan and object list (because I had the application to create the floor plan and it was easier/faster that way). I wanted to make sure that they felt they were contributing to the assignments within this internship in a significant way, other than just throwing out ideas and me taking charge, because in the end we are all learning together and I want to make sure they have just as much opportunities to learn that I do. Learning to be a team lead in this role has allowed me to take charge on many things, but at the same time it also allows me to give the other interns a chance to do it on their own with my help alongside them rather than leading them. This week has proven very successful in this regard, and I am happy with all of our work!

We have yet to receive feedback for our proposal, but I am looking forward to the graduate supervisor's thoughts. Until then, we will be working on the narrative text panels, and relaxing on spring break next week!

See you after next week!
