FFSS Internship (Spring) Week 7
Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Florida France Soldier Stories project:
Compared to the previous weeks, this week has been the least busy so far this semester. Because the primary source packets were needed for Dr. Lyons' EUH-3451 course this week, we did not need to continue to edit the packets we were previously working on. This meant that we also did not need to hold a meeting this week, since our first major deadline of the semester had been met! Dr. Lyons assigned each student in the course one soldier to work on, and now it is their task to construct a podcast episode on the soldier's life, which will follow the structure and content from the primary source packets.
I look forward to hearing how the project's introduction went over with the undergraduate course, and I am excited to see what the students create within the project's guidelines! From messages in our project team thread, I saw that one of the students may have had some beginning trouble with his assigned soldier because on our end, there was not as much readily available information on his experience when the initial research was being conducted. There was a brief mention of the student possibly switching for another soldier to make the project more achievable, but I believe they found more information on the soldier/unit that will aid in the project's creation.
Now that the project has been introduced and the bulk of our work on the packets from last semester has been done, I believe the team will move on to editing a biography from a past semester, which was part of my internship last semester! Each of us has chosen a biography to work on, and the goal is to have them edited and completed to be published at the end of this semester (or by the summer perhaps). I will continue to work on the biography I chose last semester, which will be good because it was almost about half way edited when I finished my internship at the end of the fall semester. This will allow me to take my time to complete the editing process and to not rush, since this type of work, for me at least, takes a longer amount of time to make sure everything is correct and well-done. I look forward to getting to edit on this biography again, and I am glad that we will be able to hopefully publish more biographies!
See you next week!
