FFSS Internship (Spring) Week 2
Hello! Here is this week’s update on my internship with the Florida France Soldier Stories project:
This week has been (mostly) about preparation for our presentation at the Florida Conference of Historians! We are presenting on Saturday January 24 (tomorrow), so we have all been working to prepare our presentation this week. We had a meeting last Friday to discuss the content that we will share with the audience, as well as who will present what information. We decided that I will introduce the new partnership with the Colmar Pocket Museum in France and the new packet project that we are doing in connection with the Museum. This is great for me, since I have been working on the packet project since it began last semester, so I am very experienced with the information I will be presenting.
On Wednesday, we had our regular FFSS team meeting, which discussed our progress on the packets and presentation that we will need for both of Dr. Lyons' classes. The presentation of the packet project in her HIS3600 course is Thursday next week, so we have been preparing the slideshow presentation that we used last semester, with a few changes to reflect our updated ideas for the project. We have also been preparing the packets for the students in Dr. Lyons' EUH3451 course, which will be for their podcast project. These packets need to be ready by the first or second week of February, so we have slightly more time to get them ready compared to the presentation for HIS3600.
On Friday, we met again to discuss the presentation for the Florida Conference of Historians, and we finalized the content. We are very excited to showcase the new project with the Museum, and we have been able to include a new digital format to the presentation, which is sort of a "sneak peak" to the final product that we hope to achieve for the Museum. In our presentation, we will have QR codes, just like the ones the Museum will have once this project is a little more finalized, and the audience will be asked to choose and scan one of them to view a biography or a packet. Then, the audience will be able to see the product of what we work on in this project. I am excited to have the audience actually see what kind of work we do, especially with this new digital element, because it showcases the goal of the packet project. We thought about printing the packet and biographies, but then we decided it would be much better to show them how we plan to partner with the Museum.
We are working to fully finalize the presentation tonight, and then tomorrow we will present! I am excited to present the project to the audience at the conference, I think that the audience at the Florida Historical Society annual meeting really enjoyed hearing about the project, so I have no doubts that this conference will be the same. It is so fulfilling to see how people engage with the project, I really enjoy being able to see how my efforts in this internship pay off as well. Of course I enjoy the work, but I also really love to see how my work as an intern can reflect in people's engagement and interest when we present at conferences. Overall, it will be great! I look forward to the day, and of course seeing other panels as well!
See you next week!
